Essentially,
we are a small but perfectly proportioned business, tailored for the Internet,
and strangely, only one of our number actually lives in Sydney. The rest
of us are to found in and around London,
England, Duncan lives in Southern Florida
and Juliet lives in Tokyo. Alright for some!
We started out life as a web publishing outfit,
having learned from our mistakes in conventional publishing.
G'day
Sydney was started in the summer of 1999, by Tony O'Rourke, cofounder
of the hugely successful Virtual London Ltd, which is now owned by Lord
Bradford, an energetic member of Britain's aristocracy, with a flair for
the web.
Using his experience of running Virtual London
since 1995, Tony has called
upon
the skills of a small army of freelance writers, many of whom are BBC
journalists, but all of whom have one thing in common - a love for Australia's
most vibrant city. We started this venture in order to give visitors to
Sydney the essential information they will need when they become tourists.
Using our website, you can now book your flight,
hotel and hire-car, from the comfort of your desk. You can even buy your
guidebooks!
Becky Loak, our second
in command, writes, scans and web-weaves while Kevin Green is busy in
the corner, writing pages for G'day Sydney!
Ex-pat Fiona Lyon contributes pages for G'day Sydney
but is also our
Sydney based photographer.
One
of our most prolific writers and a very accomplished photographer, Michael
Watkins, is actually a well known television presenter on Sky News. He
writes for our New York guide, Essential
Big Apple, knows New York extremely well and has has spent much time
there recently, out and about in the city, getting some great shots for
the site.
Ex-BBC journalist, Juliet Etwein has also been
busy recently, working on our latest creation, Tokyo Essentials, which
will enrich the lives of all who are heading for Japan's most incredible
city.
Broadcasting guru, Paul Easton is writing our guide
to Vienna in Austria. He's virtually lived there for the last twenty years
and knows the city like the back of his hand.
What a great array of talent! Add
in a few freelance writers and that's who we are - O'Rourke Media Ltd!
